Pierre Soulages in the Georges Pompidou Center |
|
|
Since October 14th, 2009 and until March 8th, 2010 takes place, in the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris, an important review of the contemporary painter Pierre Soulages, with hundred works from 1946 until now.
During this exhibition, the Georges Pompidou Center organizes, in association with the National History Art Institute (INHA), an international colloquium around the work of this painter on January 21st and 22nd, 2010.
Since 1979, Pierre Soulages uses almost exclusively the black colour, called "black-light" and he calls himself "outrenoir". The structure of the work is constituted by the texture of the pictorial material, by the opposition between smooth parts and streaked parts, or by contrast between the thickness of some surfaces and the tension of the lines which cross them. According to the position of the spectator, the picture is recreated differently according to the way the surface reflects the light. So, from the only black pigment Soulages realizes a work on the light.

The Biennal of Contemporary Art in Lyon |
|
|
[ Extracted from " The Insatiable " newspaper of the students of INSA - Lyon]
...... In front of you a coffee table; put on this table a book; title of this art work " Steal Me "... when you are not an accomplished art lover, it's not possible to look the Works exposed in the biennal of Lyon with hands in pockets, as a picture of the Mona Lisa in Louvre or a public urinal in Beaubourg. You are surprised, frightened by the deaf knocks in the second floor; approach and you will discover a gate which strikes the wall relentlessly, digging its track in the plaster….. in the biennial event, you are shaked, you are assaulted, you are a part of the show.

Venice Biennial Art Fair: the Golden Lion prize |

The 53rd Venice Biennial Art Fair opens to the public on 7 June 2009. For six months it presents a panorama of global contemporary art in pavilions representing the artists and countries invited. Launched in 1895, the Venice biennial has a long tradition of selecting a handful of artists to receive its prestigious prizes. Do the Golden Lions - awarded parsimoniously over the years - constitute an accelerator for the price indices of the artists that receive them?

remark of a lecturer in a contemporary Art museum :
" it's the author of the work who decrees that it's an art work. The spectators decree that a work is a masterpiece ...... example: Mona Lisa is a masterpiece; this video is an art work because the author so decreed ...... "
